With the resolution of the T-Mobile and Orange merger and the legal battles over spectrum bands drawing to a close, the government has asked UK telecoms regulator Ofcom to implement Kip Meek’s proposals in regards to selling off the spectrum.

Currently the UK has 60MHz near the 800MHz band and the 190MHz and 2.6GHz bands to sell to the highest bidder. In additions to Meek’s proposals, the UK aims to sell off the bands this year, or at the very least the TDD spectrum. Hopefully with Ofcom behind it, we’ll be looking at an auction some point in the near future.
