Ofcom’s recent musings about allowing BT to raise wholesale charges in order to stem the flow of their £9.4 billion pension deficit has caused outrage amongst companies such as Sky and Carphone Warehouse.

The basic storyline goes something like ‘BT got themselves into this mess, why should we get them out?’ As Ofcom and BT could end up increasing wholesale charges by almost 4%, I’m rather inclined to agree with them. Surely BT have had enough money in the past to put some away for a rainy day? And if they haven’t, then it really is their own fault. Both Sky and Carphone Warehouse will be battling against the reform should Ofcom decide to implement it.
