ofcom-investigates-net-neutrality

offcom-logoThe Chief Executive of Ofcom Ed Richards, is to instigate an investigation into the UK’s internet neutrality after several media companies have issued concerns. Net neutrality – the idea of all internet service providers treating all internet traffic equally – is currently a huge issue in the United States with many pushing for new laws to be created to ensure net neutrality.

Internet companies such as Google believe strongly in the principles of net neutrality however some sites and services such as the BBC iPlayer TV catch-up use too much bandwidth which creates inequality amongst internet traffic. Ed Richards has said that Ofcom will release the findings of its net neutrality investigation in the Spring, before deciding on a course of action.
