cisco-cds-vulnerability

ciscologo-reflect5Cisco, the networking giant, has warned customers of a serious flaw in its Content Delivery System, a system that allows the easy and instant access of entertainment.

According to Cisco, should an attacker successfully strike the Internet Streamer app, then it may allow them access to things such as sensitive files, logs and passwords. Worryingly, all Internet Streamer apps from Cisco are vulnerable.

Cisco is in the process of providing a patch for the Content Delivery System and it is also advising people to update to version 2.5.7.

India-Unified-Comms2Cisco has announced that it is in talks with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) in the hopes of offering its renowned services in video conferencing, data centres and virtualisation.

As well as offering its services to the Indian government, Cisco has been asked to create a system that issues a unique ID number to each citizen in India which will allow them to benefit from government schemes. Cisco currently has people working on this project for UIDAI and is hoping that its proficiency in communications systems will persuade the Indian government to collaborate further.

new-cisco-team-addition

cloudCisco, the unified communications and networking specialist, has made a new appointment to its management team. Cisco has appointed Lew Tucker as its new chief technology officer for cloud computing.

Tucker is an ex-Sun employee and made his mark by cloud creating the AppExchange market for Salesforce.com. The new appointment has triggered rumours that Cisco plans to move into the newly-developing cloud computing market. However, another view is that this move is merely a push to get its new Unified Computing System noticed by the major cloud computing providers in the market.

cisco-forecast

ciscologo-reflect5Cisco, the unified communications and networking company, has released its Visual Network Index Forecast 2010-2014. According to Cisco, the forecast shows that by the end of the year, video will dominate network traffic – both fixed line broadband and mobile broadband.

Cisco has said that video will soon account for 91% of global IP traffic. Out of this, 87% will be in the consumer space with a mere 13% in the business space. The video will take the form of internet video and TV, video on-demand and P2P video.

With the huge surge in video traffic predicted, Cisco is warning network providers to prepare themselves so that their networks have the capacity to cope.

cisco-promotes-video

ciscoUnified communications company Cisco has added its popular Telepresence Interoperability Protocol to its newly-acquired Tandberg product portfolio. By adding its Telepresence to Tandberg products, Cisco can now offer interoperability between the two video conferencing portfolio – which is going to drastically increase its business.

It has only been two months since Cisco completed the acquisition of Tandberg, after many, many months of waiting around for regulatory approval. Cisco is now determined to promote its Telepresence and to increase the general uptake of video conferencing by the business industry. I’ve no doubt at all that the volcanic ash cloud from Iceland did wonders for the sale of video conferencing units and for Cisco of course!

cisco-systemsThink Cisco is all about the unified communications and the video conferencing solutions? Think again. Electronic Health Network, a company that provides patient health education and wellness applications, has just chosen a Medical Data Exchange Solution from Cisco, the company of many talents.

The Medical Data Exchange Solution will be used by physicians as a platform for the Electronic Health Network’s health records. These records will then be able to be shared with around 60 GPs and 137 specialists. This will enable better healthcare and better time management. Not too bad Cisco – that’s what you call thinking outside of the box.

cisco-world-domination

ciscoI find it slightly disconcerting that I’m the only one who seems to have noticed or been worried by Cisco’s continuing drive for world domination. And before you laugh and wave the notion off over your shoulder with, “Har har! I say old chap, good one!” consider this: John Chamber, Chief Executive of Cisco, has just announced Cisco has a target of adding 20% more market-adjacent businesses each year.

Already (and during a recession I might add) Cisco has expanded into 30 different areas from video conferencing to power grids to unified communications (UC). The company had a 27% revenue growth during the recession and now that it’s over, there’ll be no stopping it. Still, I suppose I’d rather have a Cisco-dominated world than an Apple one.
